Director, Edward Zwick examines the mining and selling of African  "conflict diamonds" in this intense true-life drama.  After his son is kidnapped and his village destroyed, Solomon Mandy (Djimon Hounsou) is forced to work in the diamond fields.  He soon finds a large "blood diamond".  Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio)  is a diamond smuggler who hears about  Mandy's diamond.  When Danny meets beautiful Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an American journalist, he begins to see beyond his personal need, and she gains a deeper understanding of Africa.  Through their eyes we witness the power struggle that extends from the money palaces of Europe to the fields of Sierra Leone.  Nominated, 5 Academy Awards.   Rated R (143 min.) mike laib 2012.
