For me the movie “Ray main” is a mix of drama and comedy. Drama because it shows the story of a young man who thinks only about money, and when he think[s he] will win the heritage he discovers that has a brother with autism. And comedy, because it shows a fun way to confront difficult situations.

I think their father left his heritage purposely from Raymond, knowing that Charlie would go to the person who earned his heritage. It was the way he found to join the two sons.

What I really didn’t like in this movie was the end, because it is a very good movie for such as poor end. For me the ideal would Raymond return to the hospital, but after some time the doctors realize that he really felt miss her brother, and they would end up together. Happy end!!

Teacher's note: I have watched Rain Man several times, and I always feel that the ending implies that the brothers will reunite outside Walbrook. And I have always felt a little uncomfortable with the ambiguity of this ending since we never know for sure what the outcome is.

I have never heard the theory that Dad Babbit figured (correctly so) that by giving all the loot to Raymond, Charlie would be greedy and smart enough to find him. In other words, this is Dad's way of bringing the brothers together. It's a good theory! Thanks for an insightful post.

I can not say that I was impressed by the film. It tells the story of an abrasive and selfish Charlie Babbitt, who discovers that his estranged father has died and bequeathed all of his multimillion-dollar estate to his other son, Raymond, an autistic savant, of whose existence Charlie was unaware. Regular family drama where family members finally converge.

Wondering if people could choose. What would they choose? Be a genius autistic or healthy but an ordinary man?

Teacher's note: Not sure I agree with this author's insight, as described above. IMHO, Rain Man does not seem to be a regular family drama to me, although the movie's result produces a Hollywood ending. But isn't this the crux of story telling? It's not real, just a story, but how real, and extraordinary, and entertaining can we make the story because, after all, it's only a movie. So, if we hope to sell tickets and popcorn, how can we make our story bigger than life?

What would people choose is like asking "Would you rather be young and poor, or old and rich," only far more profound.

I like how this author got me all worked up with these ideas. Am I having a catharsis? Thanks for posting.

Raymond was sent to the hospital because his father thought he wanted to hurt her younger brother in the tub when he was young. Also, he has some mental problems which make him hard to connect with outside world.

In the Las Vegas, Charley discover the talent which Raymond has could help them win lots of money. Raymond has supper memory that make him count cards easily. The fact is they do win the lots of money, but they are noticed by security department of casino and ask them to quite the casino. Anyway, they have enough money to pay the debt.

In the beginning, what the Charley does is for the money. However, they make connection in the end. Raymond seems to understand can care what Charley said. He can make a joke with the chairman of hospital, which he has never done before. And Charley want to have guardship of Raymond because he want to take care his brother, not for money. He begin to understand what the family is.

I have seen this movie once before. I enjoy this movie. Even though the end of this movie is sad, it is the better way to help Raymond. In our real world, it is fact that many people like Raymond have some aspect of talent but lost some other of brain ability. They do need us to care.

Rain Man Movie about two brothers who don’t get alone with each other. When their father dies he leave big heritage to one of the sons. Which puts both brothers in conditions where they have to be together for a long time. Both of them have to reach the court. But one of them afraid to fly. Traveling through United States by car the second brother realized that he actually don’t want just take the 3-million-dollar heritage but also wants to be with his brother rather than just keep him in rehab. Even thought he couldn’t do that he stay in good relationship with his brother. While traveling the had interesting adventure to Las Vegas. Even though his brother is strange he has great memory which allowed him to win some money in casino when they was running out of money.

I do not really watch Tom Cruise's movies but Rain Man was an interesting and great movie. Throughout the movie, we can feel how the emotions changed from the start. Charlie who was only interested by the money at the first sight will gradually learn to love his brother Raymond after spending days with him.

The most emotional scene for me was when Charlie had to say goodbye to Raymond at the train station. In my opinion, what makes a movie great is when there are some scenes that can cach your heart and control your feelings. It gives us a great lesson, especially in this society where money is controlling people's actions. Before being money makers, we are humans, and humans have feelings. This movie teach us how to love one another even with huge differences.
