I really don't think they trust each other at this time. Because when Derek ask about what crime Lamont committed, he didn't answer the true! But I think they are becoming to be friends, talking about woman and sports, and working together at The Laundry Room. Probably in the future they will trust each other!!

I like the one scene of this movie because they talked without the boundary of the race. In this country, there is still a racism. Especially, in the prison the white and back people live separately. Although it is very serious problem in the U.S., I am so happy to watch the scene that they become like friends after they talked. The common topic which they usually talk about is a good connection beyond the racism.

Before they trust each other, but actually at this time Derek only trust Lamont anyway they had a conversation.
Actually i think the first conversation would be small talk or common things between them
So in the mivue, they talk about their common things actually for men such as about the girls and sports
Then they can make a common ideas and interesting and also laughing
After that, as Derek says, he wants to know something, like that they can talk about personal things then they can trust each other finally I think.

There are 2 characters in this short story. One of the guys is a black guy, his name is Lamont, who is talkative. The other guy's name is Derek, and he is a Lakers fan. Derek doesn't believe that Lamont came to this jail because he tried to steal a TV.

I think other guys who live in the jail will bother Derek or Lamont, and later they will help each other.

In this scene, they play together and talk about the woman. The black man is very talkative and give some advice to white guy. He plays funny action and make his friends laugh. when he talk about why he get into the jail, the white guy thought he was kidding.He could not believe Lamont just stole a TV for 5yrs terms of jail.
In here, the scene didn't mention the racism, but I can feel it from their talking. If this thing happened in the white people,this their could not be in jail for such a long term.

Derek and Lamont intered a jail for different reason. At that time, the racism between the white and black was showing. The white guy (Derek) didn't believe The black one (Lamont) when Lamont talked to him around his story. They need time to earn trust in each other. The laundry room let them to talk about a lot of thing. That caused them to trust in each other..

They did two things to trust each other.
First, Lamont started to talk and said funny things. It let Derek's mind melt. Second, Derek asked Lamont about his crime that he commited. Lamont doesn't want to tell about it because it is embarrassing. However, by sharing it, Derek knew about Lamont more. Accordingly, they became new friends and started to trust each other.

In the short scene of conversation between two guys, Derek and Lamont, I saw them getting friends.

At first, Derek, the white guy, looked awkward when Lamont was talking to him. but in the end of that conversation, both men were laughing at one joke, and they seemed to be sharing the same feeling.

In the next scene, two men were chatting on basketball, plus, about what Lamont committed.
When Lamont said that he just fell the TV on the police's foot, Derek was skeptical. For Derek, it was weird that Lamont got 6years jail. Still, they talked a lot, so Derek seemed to unable to doubt Lamont's story. I think they became to trust each other through every day's small talking. It must be important to know each other by talking before having bias.

Generally, when people are in the same situation, they will become friends.
In this sequence, our characters are Derek and Lamont in the prison. Also they work together in the laundry room, where they talk each other the different topics. It makes them friends, particularly, they believe each other. In addition to this, maybe they are good people in their souls.
That why I think that they learn to trust each other.
