In my view, I assume that we are foreign student should know slang and vulgar words, but avoid using them. Why we should know because to realize what about talking.

Using vulgar words in English is not recommended in formal occasion. While using such words with defensive meanings, people you are taking to would get offended. It exerts bad influence on conversions. But at the same time, international students should understand the meaning and context of such words because they are frequently seen in American movies, books and daily conversations. It helps students know more about American cultures and local costume. Therefore, we should treat them objectively.

Swearing in English may be a dangerous choice because you may not know the right meaning of the words. Many of the bad words come to us through movies and these movies suggest us situations when it is possible to use these words. But we should note that we have to consider the situation and the person who is listen to us. Therefore, when you have an appropriated situation and the other person will not be offended, then you might swear if it is a common thing for you.

It is never an easy thing for international students to use dirty words or vulgar language appropriately to express their ideas. Using vulgar language such as F word and S word frequently in daily conversation will possibly hurt others' feeling and even leave a negative impression to people around. Hence, I strongly suppose that students in summer language program should try not to say dirty words. Instead, we really need to use more academic words to make our speech more formal and fluent.

My advice to other ESL/EFL students is that it is important to know the vocabulary even if it is a vulgar language. However, it is a fact to note that depending on the situation, vulgar language is frowned upon by other people, so the students can't let this language turns into a habit. And since you know the language, it's easy for you to avoid this inappropriate language.

I will advice to ESL/EFL students that they will never use vulgar language in English. Vulgar language always has a risk that those words would attack others or make their feelings bad. In addition, it is difficult for nonnative speakers to tell slight difference of nuance of English because we are not native speakers. (Actually, I sometimes use vulgar language in my country’s language because I can use my own language freely…)

Using vulgar language in English is usually bad, but sometimes it helps you to chat friendly. For example, if you use vulgar language in conversation, your friend feels that the relationship is more closed. However be careful to abuse these words. If you do it, you will lose your friend. Also, you can use these words in a quarrel. If you use these word properly, she or he will notice that you are really angry.

Personally, I believe that using vulgar language depends on individuality. For instance, if ESL student uses this kind of words in own native language it will appear in English language likewise. However, I recommend try to avoid using vulgar English language in order to prevent confusing situation. On the other hand, it is good to know some words or phrases that ESL student can understand while speaking with native speakers.
