Based on rain man movie and Wendy Chung on ted talks, I found out that autism is very complicated and serious issue facing the world Moreover, autism is a spectrum and cause by different reasons such as the pregnancy lady who is taking medication and older father. Both shows I saw has significant information about autism such as, Charlie and his brother who has autism disease are evidence and support what is Wendy Chung mentioned" the autism shouldn't effect all family members". In addition, autism people need our help; therefore, once Charlie helped his brother he discovered how is those people can be useful in the life just like Wendy Chung says we have to work together as a network to help those people.

similarity
People with autism have restrictive and repetitive behaviors. They have difficulty communicating and interacting with others.
For example, Raymond goes to sleep at 11 o'clock every day, watches the same program ,wears the same brand underwear and is highly focused on numbers. Besides, he could not communicate with other people normally and he has no eye contact.
difference :

Raymond in the movie has a doctor who can take good care of him. He has a rich father who left money for him.He has changed a little with his brother. In reality, not all autism spectrum are well looked after. It is hard to change.
In the movie, he doesn't take medicine everyday.

It was an amazing movie, especially that the rain man character was inspired from a real savant called Kim Peek. Dr. Berit Brogaard reported in Psychology Today that Mr. Peek was an intelligent man with astonishing capabilities with memory like the ones we saw with Raymond; memorizing books, calculating numbers, and much more "megasavant" powers. However, he was diagnosed as autistic savant, who not only had difficulties communicating with the outside world, but also, developmental disabilities that requires special attention and care.

Apart from that, in my opinion, what we have saw in the movie is very similar to what we see and face in real life. For instance, savants usually tend to face communication problems and only few people can deal with them. For instance, when Charlie visited Raymond, his autistic brother, he had no idea how to deal with him, or how to have a proper conversation with him. Even though with time he was able to communicate with him and take care of him, it was for the best to take Raymond back to where he was before, because the are like mystery, and everyday you would discover something new about them, their personality, and their habits. In addition, as the speaker of Ted talk mentioned the story of the two boys to illustrates how this disorder is a spectrum. So each savant have a specific and very distinct characteristic that makes them very unique.

The movie discusses an old autism man with extraordinary mathematical ability, which is not very accurate to reality. In addition, autism patient cannot express overwhelming feelings like the last few minutes in the movie when Raymond opened up to his brother and told him that he was his main man instead of rain man. According to my experience with two of my cousins, who suffer from autism, they can miss routin things like a show and that what the movie did not agree with.

On the other hand, both the movie and the speaker agreed that autism patients have difficulties physically and emotionally. Also, thye both illustrated that when autism patients get upset they hit themselves which is true.

According to Itzchak, Aviva and Zachor (2013), and Cheng (), most of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) people have special abilities. The talent of these people can be classified into 4 major classes: music, drawing, memory, and mechanical and spatial abilities. Like ASD people in the research, Raymond, the main autism protagonist in Rainman, possess with all of these traits. While he gain extra talents from ASD, it also impairs ability to effectively communicate to other person or ability to help himself in general situation.

Autism is defined as a spectrum which it's different from person to another.

In the movie, Raymond was a high functioning person and has the ability to take care of himself. in addition, he has great abilities to calculate and ability to calculate big numbers and solve hard formulas in mathematics. Unlike the movie, people with autism are not necessary always high functioning and hyperactive, they are more likely to of average or above intelligence, and their extraordinary abilities and traits various from one to another. Also, Raymond in the movie was over acting and dramatic in his responses, and that is a false conception that all autistic are dramatic and overreacting. In addition, the film shows that individuals with autism are better off being institutionalized rather than living with their own family which is not true. However, there are some autistics with the same features of Raymond.

On the other hand, the movie focuses on the importance of the relationship between autistics and a neurotypical; it develops a conflict over whether the autistic should be enrolled in a special school or inclusion within regular classes.

The movie is much more dramatic than the real life. Families who have an autistic savant member usually put the member in a hospital and let the patient be taken care from other people since the families have their own life. Although Charley recognizes that his brother should be with him, his motivation at the first time is to take the half of fund from his brother.

In addition, according to the Ted talks by Wendy Chung, despite of extraordinary abilities of counting or remembering numbers, people with autism usually can have problem to communicate with others. In this reason, Charley cannot make up the money for his business from Las vegas, if he were in real life. Therfore, the reality how people treat the person who has autism is different from the movie.

Hidemi
One of similarities between the reality and the movie is the symptom of autism. According to Edelson (2017) from his article, "Research:Overview of Autism," autistic people become extremely insistent on routines: the guy in the movie is particular about everything such as meals. Also, they are sensitive to sounds same as the movie. Moreover, the researcher said that there are many forms of autism.

For example, Some of autistic people have a problem with their speaking ability, but some of them are not; some autistic people are social, and others are antisocial. I think the movie describes not only typical autism symptoms, which people usually think, but also the talent, which autistic people may develop, like the calculation ability the guy in the movie has. Yet, a different point from the current world which the movie described is awareness of the disoder. In the movie, the nurses do not know the word of autism, while most of people in the current world recognize what the disorder is. I think the movie was made in the 1980s so the difference happened.

What I have been thinking about Autism since I watched both Rain Man and Ted Talks by Wendy Chung is that I doubt about reality, being unloved people who are diagnosed with ASD. If I were a his mother, I would devote my time and money to caring of them unlike Raymannd's parents. Even though he had been able to hurt Charlie, I would have taken care of both of them.

Children have no ability to distinguish right from wrong, and especially because if the children were diagnosed with disability disease, I would say that they need our sincere attention. In the reality, there is a lot of stuff in the field of medical treatment that we have never known or heard in our society. In this movie, his parents decided that they did not bringing Raymannd, it is just because he would hurt his younger brother. Those behaviors that his parents did do not make sense. At least if they are parents, they should not have abandoned their child. It's also kind of human being.

Think! What if he was not treated with contempt from the public eyes? Another thing that I want to say is that because it is just movie, and it was even for a long time ago, of course at the time there was few treatments for ASD, not like now. With a little research which is published by International Meeting for Autism Research on May, 12th, I could discovered that ASD could care before those who were diagnosed with it, examined something different methods. For example, parents, who might have ASD child for any reason, try to use video feedback, they understand communication cues, and they send a signal to their baby. Then, the baby will be adopted training methods one by one. I'm not saying that children with ASD can be cured, but I'm saying that it does not have to be because they also have another capable of doing something.
