Manolo is a son of the Sanchez family, the family of bullfighters. So he is a a fully gifted natural-born bullfighter, and that is why his father has expected him to become a bullfighter since his childhood. However, his musician soul full of sympathy and love always prevents him from killing bulls at the end of the bullfight. He thinks that killing a bull is not right. He is in dilemma; neither does he want to disobey and disappoint his father, nor does he go against his nature.

On the other hand, Joaquin is an ambitious man. He is the strongest and the bravest soldier in San Angel. Although he can be strong and brave only when he has the medal of the everlasting life, he does not feel any guilty of it. He pursues his goals like a succeed in his career and marriage with Maria without understanding what the man’s honor truly means. His character is little confusing. On the one hand he is a selfish rogue, on the other hand he is just a victim of the evil Xibalba.

Maria is a kind and intelligent girl who loves Manolo’s musician soul. She defies a strong bias against woman that women love a man who always wins. When everyone in the arena blames on Manolo of his inability to kill bulls, only Maria understands and supports his way to do right things. Finally, they fall in love and their love makes them willing to die for each other.

A: The story began with a museum visit. One tour guide showed the book of life to the kids and introduced the date of dead. Manolo, Joaquin and Maria grew up in San Angel. And two boys were both in love with Maria. Manolo was a gifted bullfighter and a guitarist; Joaquin was the descendant of Captain Mondragon; Maria was the daughter of the general in San Angel. La Muerte and Xibalba made a wager by betting which boy would win Maria’s heart. Winner could rule the Land of the Remembered. La Muerte chose Manolo and Xibalba took Joaquin as his choice. However, Xibalba cheated, giving a lasting medal to secure Joaquin’s live. Later, Maria was sent to spend. Few years later, Maria came back. Two boys used many strategies to captivate Maria. Joaquin even proposed with Maria.After knowing this, Manalo invited Maria to meet in the bridge and sang a song to make a proposal to her. However, Xibalba was afraid of losing the wager, he released the snake to bite Maria. Manolo hoped Maria could get her life back, so he made a deal with evil. After entering the Land of the Remembered, Manolo knew the truth and decided to find La Muerte to help him get back to the normal world. Xibalba gave him the test and Manolo passed it. He returned to San Angel successfully and fought against Chaka, the bad guy who wanted to destroy the town. At the end of the story, Maria married to Manolo.

Manolo was born in a professional bullfight family, since his father noticed his talent of bullfight, his father spent a lot of time training Manolo. However, Manolo felt more interested in playing guitar, and he disagree with killing bulls in the end of bullfights.
Both Manolo and Joaquin fell in love with Maria. Keep the promises they made, Joaquin became the strongest and bravest man in the town they live, and Manolo become skillful musician.
The Land of Remembered is for souls of dead people who still be remember by their family or friends who still alive, on the other hand, the souls in the Land of Forgotten was forgot by their family and friends.
I pretty like this movie, I learn not only English from it, but also Spanish. It’s really fun.

Actually, bull fighting is not what Manolo really likes. He continues do that just because his father insists him and he doesn't want to let his father down. when his father asks him to kill the bull, he fells terrible and unwilling to do that. Even at last, he still doesn't kill the bull but sing a beautiful song with his guitar. What he truly love is music.

Manolo uses his true heart and his song with the full emotion to win Maria's heart, and he is willing to die in order to see Maria in the Land of Remembered. On the contrary, Joaquin thinks he is undefeated and never going to die because of the medal, so he promises Maria's father to protect the whole village as long as he can marry Maria, which is like a kind of deal.

When people die, there are two places they can go. Those who are still remembered by living people will go to the Land of Remembered, and people who are not remembered by anyone will go to the Land of Forgotten.

Manolo thinks that killing bulls is ruthless although he is a gifted bull fighter since he has a nature generated from his father. The reason is that he doesn’t like this career at all. The only thing he would like to do is to be a guitar player and sing songs for his girl.

Manolo gave up killing a bull in a game which attracted Maria with him kind heart. Then he persisted to show Maria his love in the way of playing the music. Joaquin chose a more direct way to ask Maria to marry him. He showed his muscles and gave him a signed picture to tell her that he always loved her. Although he is brave and ambitious, it cannot really open the door to Maria’s heart.

The land of the remembered is a place where those souls that are not forgotten by their families live. It’s a beautiful and bright place with pleasure and surprises. The land of the forgotten, however, is a dark place in which lives ghosts that have been forgotten by their families. They are not memorized every year, so that they have to live in the land of the forgotten.
