This story about our characters is banal and lifelike : two forties friends lose their jobs, while their boss lives in "chocolate." Sounds familiar, doesn't it? If in real life 99.9% of unemployed people looking for something similar to what they were doing all their lives, our "interns" took a new step. Step to something new, unknown, incomprehensible, but incredibly interesting and fascinating. Step towards the dream.
I wonder would it be interesting to watch a story about how they were selling electric wheelchairs in a nursing home? No! Our dinosaurs come to their senses and decided to be interviewed to get an internship at Google, after which they would get modest positions. Isn't that heroic folly? But why Google? Self-promotion? Product placement? PR? No, ladies and gentlemen, because Google - it's a dream job, workplace outside of the format, the work of which I would like to have. (My major is Computer Science by the way)
Separately, about the main characters: Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson) weren't on the best performance together since both played in "Wedding Crashers." But if "Internship" is not a breakthrough, it is a higher step of the stunned duo. I really missed them and my expectations are met.
Rose Byrne (actually she is from Australia ) played a lonely and pretty successful top manager Dana, whose personal life didn't [doesn't] go well even if she works in Google. You can also draw parallels with the lives of thousands of real Danas, who have been successful but cannot what to do next in their lonely 35.
What else in this movie? To learn how to build a team? Nope, that is DRIVE, that you feel when you are a part of this team, in which you have mutual assistance and support. The film is about how sometimes it is necessary to go beyond the usual circle of things : to distract from the monitor and admire the sunrise, or do something stupid, after what you will not only regret, but remember with a smile all your life. And maybe this nonsense will lead you to a breakthrough, who knows? This guide is about how to make a step towards the dream. And this is a guide to action.
Of course, the film has other colorful characters, good jokes at a good time. It is hard to describe more - just watch it on Film class.
Teacher's note: Here, ladies and jellybeans, we have a wordsmith, an author, who really likes to write, and delivers the goods. Bravo! I especially want to point out how this author expresses tons of praise for the story and the characters in a tone which avoids being unabashed. In other words, there are no gushing words of approval, but instead, the author chooses words carefully, always mindful of critical considerations. This is the mark of an evolved movie critic who has just seen a good movie. My recommendation: start a film blog. Big thanks for posting.
