Chef Carl Casper was passionate about cooking and he had a message to all of us. We should always do what we really like and never let anything brings us down.

Being on the road with your son is a very special bond. In that time, you get closer to your son more and more. After traveling from Miami, Percy got very close to his father and Vis versa. His father was amazed by him when he tweeted about the food truck and how there were a long line waiting just to try his food.

My favorite character is Chef Carl Casper. He fought for his passion (cooking) and did not let anything bring him down. He also demonstrated many lessons in life while he was on the road with his son.

The movie is a must see for food lovers and it provides the viewer with insights about the food truck business. I definitely appreciate the food truck on the street more after watching this movie. Because I believe there is a story behind every truck!

Teacher's note: Hot dang! Exactly--"A story behind every truck." What a tall idea for a savory writing and video project. Interview and videotape 20 food-truck vendors and make a documentary film, PPT presentation, book, whatever. What think you?

Glad you so effortlessly reckon the sense of passion that Chef Casper wears on his heart, on his sleeve. I think Chef is a must-see for anyone who wants to testify to the importance of finding their passion in life. For those who haven't found their passion, my advice is GO FIND YOUR PASSION!! Love this author for being first to weigh in on Chef.

I really enjoyed this movie, especially foods that the main character, Carl cooked. The process that he cooks delicious foods made me hungry. I really would like to eat his dishes.

I was surprised that people in this movie were using a lot of f words. I haven’t heard a lot of f words before. And also, they were using many slang [expressions]. I do not know most of the words, so it was sometimes hard for me to understand their talking.

This movie told me not only delicious foods but also two another thing. I learned that it is important to use social networking system properly, especially, people need to get knowledge about it before starting to use SNS. We need to avoid tweeting words that occur conflict. It is better to tweet something makes people happy like Carl’s son tweeted. His tweet make his parents’ relationship much better. The scene that Carl watched the video that his son made is one of my unforgettable scenes.

Thank you!!

Teacher's note: My advice: Eat a big meal before you watch Chef. I have actually heard Chef described as "food porn". There is quite a bit of slang and vulgarity in the film, and I have made a point to note its presence in the whole-movie lesson. It is important for ESL students to know who uses vulgarity, when, and how.

I have observed the f word tossed around too freely like a bad lettuce-and tomato salad. However, the characters in Chef demonstrate who, when, and how quite realistically. Compare this to "A Million Ways to Die in the West." This movie is ridiculous in its use of the f word and other vulgarities, confusing to those who want to understand the local vernacular.

Thanks for a great post!

Actually, before this movie begins screening, I've seen this movie's poster and I've waited to see this movie. I like the story of success, so I like this movie.

In the movie, the Chef is like obstinate when he is cooking even to owner and his family. So, finally, when he is arguing with his restaurant owner, because of menus and twitter, he gets fired. Then, he is looking for his new job(cook), and he gets a chance to cook in the food truck.

I think, at first he was disappointment to cook in the food truck, but after cleaning the truck and shopping cooking stuffs with his son, he looked like really happy and hopeful. I think because of his son, Percy, he can get success. Even though Percy is young, he can help his dad to cook and get a job and finally succeed. Percy posts pictures and comments about their food truck and place where they sell the foods that's why the chef can get more menus and money and finally sponsor who is at the beginning of this movie, fighting with the chef because of menu in the chef's original restaurant.

After I watch this movie, I'm touched from the chef's story and his family. So I'd like to watch this movie again.

Teacher's note: So glad you enjoyed Chef. Sometimes when I have an expectation of a new movie, I am disappointed when I finally see it. To be honest, I had a big expectation for Chef with all the big-name stars, the food-truck theme, and especially, Jon Favreau. I'm happy to say that Chef completed satisfied my appetite like a six-dish Italian supper. Oh yeah! Thanks for a good setup.

I like movies about food. The movie makes me hungry while I was watching the movie.

In the movie, Carl Casper, one of the famous restaurants' chef, is absorbed in his job, and he pays no attention to his son. One day, he makes a twitter account, and he wants to confront with a critic for his pride. However, the restaurant's owner doesn't allow him to confront with him. Finally, Carl is fired, and he gets a food truck. His son, and Martin, who was a Carl's workmate in the restaurant, work with him. They make a tour of the country, and they become famous in twitter. Later, he wants to be with his son.

I didn't know that this story is true and this story's true character is a Korean. I'm really impressed from this movie. Thanks!

Teacher's note: At first, I also didn't know about Roy Choi (See: https://www.facebook.com/moviesgrowengl ... =bookmarks), but all at once, I found the DVD, made the lesson for Chef, and ran across a profile on Choi in my local media. Pretty amazing discovery. I love it when this happens, but not often enough. Thanks for posting, bro.

This movie made me feel excited and comfortable with nice Spanish music and nice story. My favorite scene was when Carl and Percy sat chatting near their food track at night. After they took selfie for the video Percy making, Carl told Percy that their summer was gonna end, and he could not take Percy to his food track travel anymore. Although Percy asked Carl to work on weekend first, Percy at last accepted that he could not, and that the great time he spent with his father was no more continued.

When I saw this scene, I remembered the feeling I always had, when something fun came to an end. For example, when the school trip ended, I always felt really sad, and I always realized that the time I spent with my friends was very precious. Until the end, I could not realize. So I think Percy also realized that the time he had was wonderful when Carl said , and I could see him wishing if he could be with his father more.

Although it is sad, I like this kind of feeling. I am pleased that I could remember this delicate feeling through the movie. Also I was happy to see happy ending♥ The marriage ceremony ending with bright Spanish songs was really great! I love this movie, thank you.

Teacher's note: When a movie is able to make a personal connection to your life, this has a great impact. It's why a great movie-watching experience is so loved and so precious. I'm so happy you made such a warm connection with Chef. I think for me, the connection had to do with the father and son relationship. Thank you, author, for this inspiring post!

I liked this movie's atmosphere very much! Delicious food, Spanish music, and many foolish jokes made the journey of the truck wonderful! I really want to eat Cuban sandwich which Casper cooked!!

I liked Casper's life like a roller coaster. He pursued what he really wanted to do. Sometimes this life is a dangerous but filled with a lot of stimulation!
As Steve jobs said in very famous speech at Stanford University, only thing which satisfy you truly is doing things which you really love to do. I agree with this opinion.

Then, this movie is a also movie which concentrates on family. As journey went on, Percy and Casper made strong relationship. These kind of movie always make[s] me miss my family in my home country... lol

Anyway, I did enjoy this movie! Thank you.

Teacher's note: You're most welcome. The pleasure is all mine. I can't tell you guys how much pleasure it gives me to share movie watching as a near-perfect vehicle for language learning. I only wish I could get the word out more and more. Thanks for the Steve Jobs reference. His inspiration is Chef Casper's inspiration.

What is real success? The movie "chef" throws this questions to me. Normally, when I think about success, money, a big house, and a fantasitic car comes up in my mind. This movie's main character only follows her authority; so, he does not stay focus when he dates with his son. After [he is] fired, he can not find any job that he can move. He decides to do a truck restaurant. From that time, he spends much time with his son and he knows that enjoying time with his family is real happiness to him. Luckily, his restaurant is really popular. He opens his own restaurant and find real love with his ex wife.

I stay and study in U.S now. I can not be with my family. I study english for a better future but sometimes I [am] confused that what is real happy. My family relationship is very close each other. So, I definitely want to go back to Korea and meet mom and dad. However, If i did not come to U.S, I could not understand that I will miss and love my family.

This movie teaches me that we should have to find the things that what is really valuable. Public success will follow right after that.

Teacher's note: Here is another author who expresses how Chef connects in a personal way. What I find interesting, is that the personal connection is personal for each person, in other words, unique. This tells us that Chef has the magic of universal resonance. I predict more and more that when Oscar season comes around, Chef will be on the table. Mark my words!

This film [is] about a man who is divorced [and] has one son. On the other hand this guy at the same time a very good chef. Chef Carl Casper has a problem. His restaurant boss, Riva won't let him cook his own way. Later there were a public fight with Ramsey Michel. Although everything that happens is better for you. After this situation he left his work.

His ex-wife suggests a food truck as the solution to all his problems. He went to Miami with his son and ex-wife. He took food truck from his ex-wife's first husband. Carl Casper has transformed from the edgiest chef in Miami to the needy aunt.

I believe that food truck became so popular because Casper's son has advertised their food truck in twitter. The most touching moment in the film was when his son sent him message with their joint photos. It showed us his son's love to him. As I guessed and said his ex-wife loves him. We heard this from the phone conversation between them. In my opinion they'll stay together.

Teacher's note: Well done, author. All bases covered. Editing suggestion: Please be aware of time frame. This post shuttles between past and general time for no apparent reason. As a writer, I have had to train my brain to be ever vigilant of time-shift creep. It attacks our essay when we least expect it, and be sure it is noticed by the confused reader. Thanks, and I hope this suggestion helps, dear author.

In this earth, nobody has no mistakes, but a good person who admits that he/she is not perfect tries to correct his/her mistakes.

I am not a father, but I can understand fathers’ feeling because I still remember my father when he struggled to spend more time with his children; it is natural behavior. That [is] what Chef Carl Casper does with his son. He is fired from the restaurant because he wants to cook food in his way. He wants to win in a battle with a critic food. Every cloud has a silver lining; yes, this happens with Carl when he loses his job. Not only does he find his way to cock what he wants, he spends more time with his son.
:D :D :D

A food truck is smaller than a restaurant, but Carl discovers the real meaning of family. It does not matter if you live in the palace, cabin, or truck, what you feel inside your chest may be bigger than the space. It is a small and old truck, but this truck reforms his family again.

Teacher's suggestion: This essay opens with a good piece of advice. I am a father, and I think this author hits the nail on el cubano when remembering how a father struggles to spend more time with his kids. It is so easy to use your work as a "reason" (excuse?) to be too busy to sit and listen to their stories. They have a lot on their minds, and Chef Casper learns all about this important lesson. Thanks for a cool post.
