Hi! I’m “WhY” a Thai student from Mike’s class ;)

I’m not a serious fan of movies, I don’t expect myself to watch new movies every month, I don’t follow every movies that my favorite directors make too, but I do love watching movies and enjoy the moments good movies inspire me. :geek:

I attend this movie class because it’s a good change to see some good movies I have never watched. I have no specific kind of movies I like but I do NOT watch horror movies!!!!!! My favorite directors are Wong Ka-Wai, Kim Ki-Duk and Woody Allen.

I like the beauty of loneliness in Wong Ka-Wai’s movies, and how he presents it. He is one of the “must know” directors from Hong Kong for Asian film lovers.
Kim Ki-Duk is a Korean director. He’s very famous among international filmmakers. To me he is the coolest psycho man I have ever known.
Woody Allen, an American director that acts in his own films. I think he is more like a writer than a film director, a very wise writer that can make films.

Here is my movie list:

The Artist (retro-silent comedy)
Black Swan (drama)
Hugo (drama adventure)
Gladiator (drama action hist.)
Truman Show (drama comedy)
When Harry met Sally (romance comedy)

I hope everybody enjoy the film class :D

Teacher's note: Thank you, Why, for your awesome suggestions! I hope you find that movies help you improve English.

Greetings,
I'm Salim from morocco , and I LOVE MOVIES , not just watching movies , but also writing screenplays , Directing and editing all by myself . the processing of creation of a movie is what I really like .
Nevertheless I have to admit that I'm fond of independant movies .
My favorite directors are : Stanley KUBRICK , the one , the master .
Pedro ALMODOVAR , drastic , strange and so deep.
Quentin TARANTINO for the way he uses stereotypes of cultures .
Martin SCORSESE , amazing director , very talented and creative.
Luc BESSON etc...(I'll skip woody allen and others from the new wave)

In addition to that , I also have some good movies to recomend i'll just cite 5 .
5-"Rain Man "from B.Levinson
4-"2001 a Space Oddissey" from S.Kubrick
3-"Shining" from S.Kubrick
2-"Le fabuleux destin d'amelie poulain" from J-P.Jeunet
1-"Citizen Kane" from Orson welse and "Casablanca" from M.Curtiz

I would be honored to hear about your preferences ! See you soon.

Teacher's note: I am in awe of your background in movies. I took some screenwriting classes and wrote three screenplays. I know how difficult the art AND the craft are. I am honored to hear your preferences.

Hello, my name is Omar and I'm from Kuwait

I love movies that have well written dialogues. I also love Indie films because they have low budgets so they rely on the script and story to be really good. I can always depend on good Indie films to have enticing dialogues. Animation and Documentaries are genres I love too.

My favorite directors are: Wes Anderson, Tim Burton and Hayao Miyazaki

I would suggest:
The Shawshank Redemption
Inception
Iron Man
Ponyo
I Love You, Man
Wallstreet
Limitless
The Truman Show
When Harry Met Sally

Teacher's notes: MoviesGrowEnglish also has "Spirited Away" by Miyazaki. Have you seen it? "I love You, Man" is one of my favorite comedies. I love your point about indie films. A friend of mine is currently shooting his first indie film in Detroit. It's called "Mislead", and everyone who has read the script loves it. Thanks for posting.

I like nearly all kind of movies as long as the story is catching me. I'm not a big fan of Science Fiction and Action movies nevertheless some of them got me. My recommendations from the list are:
