6. Why did you sign up for this elective and what do you hope it will be like?
Because of the high stress from academic class, I want to get some relax in elective class. I thought that watch movies is the best
way for me to release pressure!

I would like to see Argo, Wall Street, Forrest Gump in class.

Hi Austin,

Thanks for your comments. I agree with you about Ang Lee, but these days, I'm particularly impressed by Alfonso Cuaron. Have you seen GRAVITY?

Those are good movie picks. We probably won't watch WALL STREET in the first half of the quarter, but we might fit it (or its sequel, MONEY NEVER SLEEPS) in during the second five weeks.

:-)

David

Moderator Comment: I greatly enjoyed Gravity. I liked Captain Phillips even more. As for Argo, we watched it in my movie class. The students seemed to really appreciate it.
Thanks, --Mike

Hello Hashim,

I'm glad to hear that you're interested in comedies. Comedy is one of the most difficult things to understand across cultures because it involves to many nuances of cultural values. Your interest inspires me to search for a good comedy to explore in class. Amy's suggestion of LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE might be a good idea. I'll think about it.

I was always interested in movies since I was a child. I am very eccletic about movies genre, because if I sit on the sofa and start to watch a movie, any kind, I start to get interested in the movie and know its end. But my main favorites are action, thrillers and comedies. I remember that the first movie I watched,in a theater was a Brazilian comedy movie named "Os Trapalhoes". But when I was a kid, my favorite movie was Indiana Jones. My favorite movie now was the Trilogy The Lord of thr Rings. Talking about actors and actresses, my favies are Russel Crowe and Nicole Kidman. I signed up for this elective because I think we can learn a lot from movies, for example, idioms and cultural aspects and I also think students get more motivated to attend a class when teachers work with movies.

My five suggestions are:
Cars, Crash, Jurassic Park, Shakespeare in love and Pulp Fiction.
