The first step is called the promise known as the pledge in the movie. You show the audience something real/ ordinary and they check it. The second step is called the turn, you make that disappear. Last but not least is the prestige, when you reappear [bring back] the thing that you made disappear and this is the last step for a magic trick.

Abdullah

Teacher's note: Thanks for being the first to post to this lesson prompt. This is a very concise summary of the typical magic illusion. Interesting how you use the word "reappear." This word is usually intransitive, meaning it doesn't take an object. But this author uses it in a transitive way by applying an object. I say, Why not!" It's like the word "grow" as in 'flowers grow'. Now it is used transitively as in "grow your money." Isn't it funny how subtleties of language change so quickly. Are you watching closely?

The first stage of magic tricks is called "pledge". Magicians make a serious promise to the audience. The next step is "turn". A bird or a man is be disappeared. Then, the final step is "prestige", the process of bringing them back.

Teacher's note: An extremely concise summary could use a little more detail. Must it be a bird or a man? What about a card trick? Can this author generalize the three steps? So easy! Big thanks for posting.

Movie Prestige [is] about magician. Movie starts describing two focuses parallel but both about disappearing and returning back something. However, the two things are very different. One of them is a bird while another is a human. Two make disappear and return back a bird is much easier than do the same with human. So the hook of a movie is that the man was murdered while he was doing the trick and the judge [was] trying to figure out who.

In my opinion, the murder[er] is a Cutter, because in the trick with birds it looks like every disappearing bird was killed because as it was shown in the movie that he has too much [many] birds for this trick while he could just do this trick with only one bird. So, it is easy to him to kill. However, I don’t see his motives to kill that guy, but probably it is because he wanted to sell his secret as was shown that someone was trying to buy secret from the man which gone to the prison.

Teacher's note: There are some rather observant notations in this post. I like the theory that since Cutter kills the bird, perhaps he is responsible for the murder of Angiers, the magician, too. . . But what is his motive? Good question. When you watch the whole movie, the answer is quite surprising and gruesome. Thanks for posting.

At the beginning of the film, we saw [see] 2 tricks. One of them is the disappearance and return bird back. Another, more entertaining, [is] the disappearance of a man. Will he come back? Or is he really killed Borden? Look! I finished watching the movie prestige to the end. And the end was unpredictable. Two magician are trying to prove to each other who is better whole life. This film [is] about the passionate and desperate people. They have sacrificed much for the sake of their profession. Was [Is] it worth it? Of course! Otherwise there would be no such interesting history.

Every magic trick consist of 3 steps. The first part is called "pledge'. The magician shows you something ordinary. The second act is called 'the turn'. The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it to do something extraordinary. The third part is the hardest part. 'The prestige".

Teacher's note: I'm glad you saw The Prestige and told us a little about it, but not too much. Do you think it is possible to figure out the murder at the beginning without watching the entire film? I think so, but only if you're watching very carefully, and your powers of induction are powerful. Thanks for a C-o-o-o-l post!

Magic trick have three steps, the pledge, the return and the prestige. First of all, a magician need[s] to tell audience what he is going to hide. Secondly, the magician hide[s] something. Finally, the magician need[s] to return something he hid and show it audience.

Teacher's note: Perfect.

Thanks,

The three step of a magic trick is pledge, turn and prestige.
The first one, pledge is to show the audience that there is no trick and no abnormal. The second one, turn is to make something disappeared. The last one, prestige is to make the disappeared thing come back in front of the audience.

This movie's introduction was really mysterious and attractive. If I could, I want to see this movie til the end!

Teacher's note: The Prestige is a fascinating film. There is enough information in the mysterious beginning to hint at the secrets to follow. I'm pretty sure you would be shocked at the ending. Once I had seen The Prestige for the first time, I couldn't wait to see it again. If we watch it in your class, I think it would be the first time in my ESL movie elective. What do you think?

Thanks for posting.

Hello,

After I watched this movie, I applauded. I needed to focus on these tricks and realized because I've never seen magical movies or movies that I should use my brain and thinking

But I did really keep focusing on this movie and I felt satisfaction because I did, I realized. In this movie, there are 3 tricks. The First, this is 'pledge' Magicians promised something to audiences like "In here, there was no trick and no fake" but every audiences doesn't believe that and keeps finding something but they can't find that.

And Second, 'Turn' I thought It was disappearance or hide. Magicians used tools or equipments and disappeared something and then audiences only focused on that "where was that" and something. I thought that's why magicians could use tricks because audiences only focused on something or magicians, not total story.

And Third, 'Prestige' I thought It was 'return' Magicians disappeared something and turn back at this time, audiences were surprised and got big impression and they applauded to magicians.

Teacher's note: Here is a thorough discussion of the three steps to a classic magic trick with a personal touch. Love it! I must suggest some effort on syntax in this thought piece. Big thanks for posting.

There are three steps to a magic trick. The first step is called 'pldge.' Magicians show tou someting like bird. The seond step is called 'turn.' For example, the bird is disappeared. The third step is called 'prestige.' The bird is back.

This movie was very misterious for me, but it was interesting.

Thanks for posting.
