This was one of the movies I wanted to see, and it was really lovely movie! I think I can watch this movie again and again.

This movie was the story about the lovely family. The film well describes each character's concerns or problems. There are lots of scene that I like.

I like the scene when Dwayne became aware of his color blind[ness] and screamed various things... (fucking family or something), and mom failed persuading him and gave up, however Olive could take him without even one word. Olive just held her brother's shoulder, and then Dwayne said, ok let's go. It was a cute scene. Sometimes Mom worries too much about children I feel, and my brothers sometimes understand me better. I think brothers or sisters are closer. They are often holding the same feeling as mine. This scene reminds me of that.

Olive's dance show at little miss sunshine was also a very good scene. Father, uncle Frank and Dwayne, everyone ran into the backstage and said, "Don't let her go, this place is stupid." And Dwayne was worrying that she might get bad judgement and she might be depressed...However, actually Olive was more powerful. Beyond Dwayne's concerns, Olive made one of the judges confused and made her angry, but she still continued her performance.

Then, surprisingly, father followed Olive and started dancing instead of stopping her! It was so funny but also it was warm and lovely scene. Actually, the girls participating in the little miss sunshine contest seemed crazy. They are not like children. They were little adults. It was too much, too much dressing up, too much make up, and too much treating.

But the best scene is the every scene the family getting the bus. I really like that scene. I like to see the family taking on the same problem together.
I really enjoyed this movie, I love family movie♥ thank you.

Teacher's note: I'm so glad you enjoyed "Little Miss Sunshine" and felt the personal connection. It's so true that siblings often understand each other far better than their parents understand them. This post observes several of the most touching scenes in the film, scenes that make "Little Miss Sunshine" a classic IMHO. Thanks for being the first to post, and for so generously sharing your insight. We love it!!!

When I watched the first half of this movie, I was not really interested in it. This is because that I did not like the family’s character. First, the person who I do not like is the dad, Richard. All of his conversations with people are always about winner or loser. I think there are the other ways in our life. His thinking is too narrow. Second, I could not really understand why the son, Dwayne tried to not to speak with anyone. I can understand one of his reasons that he does not like his family. However, he should say his opinion. This is because he is one of the family and he has the right to say that.

On the way to the Little Miss Sunshine competition, there are some accidents that happen. I did not expect such accidents, so I felt many feelings like surprising, interesting, and so on. There were many accidents, but their relationships finally became closer. I like the scene that the family push their car and run to get on the car.

Teacher's note: The first time I watched "Little Miss Sunshine," there were similar feelings because the characters did not seem to elicit much empathy. In fact, I generally do not like this kind of movie at all (e.g. "Where the Wild Things are" "500 Days of Summer" "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' ). I like my heroes to be more . . . heroic. But this is a personal bias. Many would disagree.

What I think sets "Little Miss Sunshine" apart is that it establishes a dysfunctional family and shows how they learn to cope and in the end find a bond of love. I also have to agree with its sentiment toward what appears to me like exploitation of children, and how one child (with a little help from grandpa) succeeds in making a mockery of the whole pageant.

I'm glad you found some parts of "Sunshine" charming, and I hope you'll watch it again. You might find, as I did, that its charm shines through a little more. Thanks for a cool and honest post!

What a lovely movie "Little Miss Sunshine" I really like the movies kind of this movie, while i see this movie, i keep smiling. At the beginning of movie, the parents seem that they always fight, and as i see that he talks to this children, i think the husband is obstinate, but after a grandfather is dead, i see many differences of his personality such as that he does everything for his family and talk[s] lovely.
I like this process.

And my favorite scene is the last scene that on the stage, all of family members are dancing like grandfather because, the uncle and Dwayne have had their personal problems but, i think after they get the stage, they totally fix them, and also they just dance for their family, so I can feel their family love. I think It is big deal for them, so for me, it is big impression.

Thank you for showing this movie, I really enjoyed that!

Teacher's note: So this author likes "Little Miss Sunshine" and learned a lesson or two from its characters. Bravo! I think this author is correct in noticing that, when the family members get up on stage near the end, the result is therapeutic. Good observation.

This movie about one family which at first glance seems crazy. With grandpa who started snorting heroin. With head of the family, father, obsessed with his nine-step refuse to lose program. With Dwayne, who hasn't spoken in a year. With mother, who rushes between them. Her brother, who recently failed at suicide. And among all this madness a little girl with her childhood dreams. This little girl is invited to compete in the Little Miss Sunshine.

But I do not undertook to judge immediately this family as bad, I felt that the family has a rod that makes them one. And I was not wrong. Together, they seek destiny in an old Volkswagen and a determination to bond as a family.

The funniest person in this movie was the grandpa. Scene into the car was funny. The next funny person was uncle Frank, in the episode when he ran into the building.

Thank you teacher for this funny movie!

Teacher's note: Glad you liked "Little Miss Sunshine." I sometimes wonder if the "Miss" in the title has a double meaning? Like "she misses the sunshine". Does that make sense? Were you sad when grandpa was no longer in the story? The first time I saw this unusual film, I was so disappointed. Thanks for posting.

The movie “Little Miss Sunshine” is a dark comedy; usually I don’t like this kind of history. It is because I don’t think [it] is funny when they do joke with serious subjects. But [it] has funny parts, for example when grandpa gives advice to Dwayne, and when [they] all dance on stage.

This movie does a great critique of Dream Family. They are apparently happy, but actually have many problems. The good side of the concourse [competition?] was approaching the family. Because the concourse is so terrible, are not children. I would never let my daughter take part in something like that!

Teacher's note: I have the same reaction to "dark comedy" unless there is a strong message of hope and redemption buried somewhere. I think "Little Miss Sunshine" qualifies. And I strongly agree with this author's opinion about the weirdness of the pageant. Thanks for posting.

The movie "Little Miss Sunshine" illustrated us typical American family.

Even though this movie has kind of nasty humors, it has a teachable thing. The teachable thing is that Hoovers support each other every time. For example, they went to a long way with difficulties because of Olive's competition.

In addition to that I admired Dwayne's patience to keeping silence. Actually, all Hoovers are stubborn people.

Finally, I was received as a family member many advises how to care, appreciate and listen to the closest people in the world by watching this movie.

Teacher's note: I'm glad this author gained some valuable insight from "Little Miss Sunshine." I'm not sure the Hoover family is typical, but rather a bit extreme. Most families don't have that much dysfunction. Imagine a grandfather who is a heroin addict? Doesn't come around too often. Thanks for posting.
