Both of them tended to keep it as a secret. However, Mary told the truth to Russell, which benefitted their marriage due to the “honest conversation.” In contrast, the relationship between Nick and Connie is damaged. The hotshot ATC, Nick, has a sense of rivalry with Russel, who is an excellent newcomer, Russel. One day, Nick meets Mary, Russel's wife in a supermarket. She is crying, so he brings her to a restaurant, and then, he sleep with her. Russel knows it, but he never retaliate against Nick. On the other hand, Connie, who is Nick's wife, also knows and runs away from home. Soon after, a big incident that a bomb is planted in an airport happens. Nick and Russel have dissatisfaction, but work together and challenge it.

1.ATCs’ job is telling the way to captain of planes, the need to talk clearly and speak fast.
2. Nick used to be the best ATC before Russell came. After Russell come, Russell do everything better than Nick. Nick fill that all of his friends, and his honor being taken away by Russell. Nick self- esteem cannot take this, so he keeps compare himself with Russell.
3. Russell forgave Mary, but he did not forgive Nick. Russell tell Nick that he had already have consciousness that things like this might happen, and Nick should also have this consciousness. The words made Nick start suspecting. Than Russell accosted to Nick’s wife. This make Nick cannot have peace in his mind, even if Russell do nothing.

They also need to separate their life and work easily since they have to have a good and relaxing rest after their work to keep a good condition.

He and his colleagues control the airplanes approaching the airports in New York by watching a circle-shaped screen that shows every movement of approaching airplanes and indicating direction to pilots. In order to prevent airplanes from crashing into each other in the air, they should pay all of their attention to their work and react accurately and rapidly to dangerous situations. According to the movie, air traffic controllers have the highest rates of depression, nervous breakdowns, heart attacks and alcoholism caused by extremely stressful works in which a momentary distraction can lead to immense casualties.

In such field of work like a war Nick has been one of the best air controllers until Russel appears. Russel seems to be born to be an air controller. He has an amazing attention span, an ability to judge fast and accurately, and almost-horrible challenge spirit. Nick feels a sense of competition to Russel from the first day he met Russel. The scene of their first meeting wonderfully implies their future relationship. They did a game like an endurance contest. The winner of this game is the one who can bear the fire longer than others. Winner was Russel and it made Nick upset because Nick always had won until that time. His fierce sense of competition to Russel starts to ruin his soul.
