Thanks, Reem, for being the first to post. I'm glad Tokyo Drift is an action movie you can enjoy. Maybe it is because this film is more than just action. Tons of drama here.

Hi Mike!

I really like this movie even if i already watched it 3 times. One of my favorite scene is when in Tokyo, DK and Sean are racing to win the right to stay in town, and both of them are arriving to the famous and crowded Tokyo ped crossing. People are scared and let the cars drift. The slow motion in this scene is crazy!

First, Sean is moving to Japan to avoid going to jail in America because of his dangerous driving behaviour. His father, who seems to be from the Army, lives there because Sean's parents are divorced. But quickly, Sean discovers the nightlife of Tokyo and the drifting world.

Quickly, Sean meets Neela, a girl from his highschool. She is dating DK (or Takashi), the nephew of a Yakuza figure in Tokyo. Neela and Sean are both attracted to each other because they share the racing cars' hobby but also because they both feel like outsiders in Tokyo. Indeed, Sean is called a "gaijin" by DK, which means "stranger or foreigner" because he is from America. And Neela used to be called a gaijin too because her mother moved from Australia to Japan.

To sum up, i really like this movie even though the story is pretty simple. This is one of my favorite "The Fast and The Furious" movie.

Hi Marine-- Thanks for logging a thoughtful post. I discovered that watching a good movie more than once is almost always a satisfying experience. I always notice more on repeat viewings. For ESL students, repeat viewings has to be most helpful for your English, especially when you become able to anticipate what the actors will say. It's kind of like knowing the words to a song. Please check this link http://www.moviesgrowenglish.com/Studen ... awthemovie at the MGE Student FAQ page for more discussion on this important topic. Glad you like "Tokyo Drift."

Hi, this is Christina :)

First of all, I would like to say that I really enjoy the series of Fast and Furious. Not only because they’re extremely exciting, but also there are always some meanings and lessons behind the plots which can make us think about them for a while or even last long.

In Tokyo Drift, the main character, Sean Boswell, was a trouble maker. He and his mom had moved to a lot of places to escape from the chaos made by Sean, and this time, Sean was asked to move to Japan to live with his father who was a soldier. We can see the extreme comparison between a father full of righteousness and a son who always did something against the law. However, they finally agreed with each other harmoniously.

The relationship between Sean and Neela started from the school, and after school they also met each other in DK’s place. I think they were crushing on each other at that tine. Besides, the relationship between them made DK upset and I think it dominate[d] the story. Neela was a spiritual faith to Sean when he was racing with DK.

My favorite character in this movie is Han. He made people feel secure when staying with him, and he has the belief that a trustful friend is much more important than money. I really impressed by what Han said to Sean when they were on a tall building and looking down the crowded people walking across the street quickly. Han said that it was because fear leads them to walk or life is just simple.

At the end, Sean beat DK in the risky race. I think the difference of Sean between the first time he competed with DK and this time is not only the improvement of his skills but also the confidence and stronger faith. We should find out what we truly like, and just go for it!
:P

Yo Christina-- I am also drawn to the character of Han for much the same reasons as you mention above. It is pretty curious to me that he lends his expensive drift car to Sean the first time they meet, and as predicted, Sean totals the car. Then, in the scene you mention above, Han explains why he does it. When Han meets his fate, it really launches me into revenge mode, so as a movie viewer, I don't mind what happens to DK in the end. Thanks for a good post from a good writer! Now, let's RACE, Dominic!!

Hi Mike!

I really enjoyed this movie, because I love all the actions, especially the drifting part

According to the movie, Sean move[s] to Japan because of his dangerous driving behavior back in the states as a trouble maker. And this time he leaves the states and live[s] with his father to avoid going to jail.

I think Sean and Neela are drawn to each other because they are both “gaijin” on the physical appearance, though Neela was raise[d] up in Japan. I guess maybe Neela had been treated like an outsider ever since she was a child, and it kind of feels the same for Sean because he is always moving around. They are reflecting as a mirror in some way.

In my opinion, drift-racing isn’t just a race in the film, it always seem[s] to have another meaning such as a deal or a business. For example, in the first scene Sean wants to beat Clay for his girlfriend; also in the last scene, to make peace for the troubles he had cause with DK.

Hey Goer--
This excellent post alludes to an important facet of the movie title. The word "drift" refers not only to the style of racing but also to its description of a human characteristic. Both Sean and Neela are people who drift in their personal lives. In other words, they are not tied to their roots like most people. They are outsiders or drifters. Such people are usually looked down upon by people with deep roots. IMHO this is a mistake. Those who move around a lot see a lot more of the world and take more risks leading to greater enrichment of their lives. Those with deep roots and those who drift can learn much from each other. What do you think, Goer?

Thanks for posting. --mike  http://www.moviesgrowenglish.com 8-)

I am Minkyo and really sorry to late. :(

I am a big fan of this movie. So I've seen it many times.

Sean moved to Japan because he is a "trouble maker". So he had move to somewhere, and his father was in Tokyo.
I think that they drawn to each other because they were outsider.
It's a kind of culture and many people enjoy it.
I was very sad when Han was dead. Because he is one of the characters that I like most in the movie.
And I like the fisherman who wears a blue shirt because he was the real "DK" in Japan.

Hey Minkyo-- So how many times is it? For me, maybe five. Now I have to watch TOKYO DRIFT again to see who the fisherman is. Do you mean that he is a drift racer in the real world? Cool.
Thanks for a smart post.

Hey,
This is Abdullah,

I really like the movie, and I enjoyed watching not only this movie but also all of the series of Fast and Furious.

because it has a lot of actions and car racings.
It was actually my second time watching this movie.

The story started when Sean was moved to Japan because he was trouble maker in America.
So, he moved to Japan because his father was living in Japan.

Sean and Neela were attracted to each other because both of them were outsider, and they were classmates in the high school.

Hey Abdullah-- Thanks for a main-idea summary and character profiles for TOKYO DRIFT. So glad you like this movie.

Regards-- mike  www.moviesgrowenglish.com

In this movie, the main character is a troubled kid who makes his mom move out of town every time he gets in trouble.

when he wrecks his car in a race between him and one of the jocks and destroys private property his mom sends him to his father who is living in Tokyo, Japan.

he meets DK through Twinkie (his new friend) who is one of the Mafia`s top men`s nephew and the "Drift King"

he challenges him to a race but he doesn`t have a car, so one of DK`s buddies, Han gives him his car to "what the boy got" and he completely destroys the car in a Drifting competition. the main hero now has to work for Han to make up for the loss of his car, they sell cars. while that he teaches him how to drift and they become best friends.

Sean (the main character) falls in love with Neela, DK`s girlfriend and troubles begin with DK

he discovers that Han was stealing from him so he kills him and asks for Sean`s head.

now sean wants revenge, but DK is a nephew of a powerful man so,
Sean asks DK`s uncle to settle this through a racing competition and the loser leaves town.

I like never thought I would like any of the Fast & Furious series this much, this movie did magic.

Hi, this is Yoonhwa! I really love Fast and the Furious series like crazy!!!
I don't even remember how many times I've watched "The Fast and the Furious: TOKYO DRIFT" when I was in Japan.

First of all, Sean who always gets in a trouble had to move to Japan where his dad was living because his mom couldn't manage or even handle him anymore in America. As soon as Sean arrived to Japan and went to school, he became interested in drifting and he did a race with Han's car with "DK" and of course he lost :| However, Han agreed to teach how to drift well if Sean got money back from a person who borrowed the money from Han. When Sean and Han was drifting in Shibuya, DK was suddenly chasing them and the car that Han and Sean were on overturnded and it looked like as if Han was dead... But the thing is I don't know why but Han was alive and you may see him on the movie "The Fast and the Furious 6". Afterwards, Sean decided to visit Mr.Kamata who is an uncle of DK besides Sean knew DK's uncle is the weakest point for DK and Sean suggested to do a race btween Sean and DK and the condition was that if Sean could win over DK at the drifting race, Mr. Kamata would make Sean and Niera free and also the loser will leave a town.

hi, this is alice.
This movie talks about automobile race. I like their race when Sean & DK first meet, Sean is so funny, he doesn't know how to control a car; however, he accepts this race. Sean's acting is the same as youngster's behavior in nowadays. He always flaunt his superiority even though he can't do it. He is also a stubborn man, doesn't follow his parents' step. Then, Sean practices more with Han who helps him to improve his technology. Finally, Sean wins the race, and DK goes away. I'm so sad that Han dead during the chase.
