Groundhog Day is a popular tradition in the United States that happens every February 2nd. It is the day that the Groundhog comes out of his hole after a long winter sleep to look for his shadow. If it is cloudy, and the animal does not see his shadow, it means that winter will end soon, but if on the contrary, the sun is shining and the animal is frightened by his shadow, the winter will last more six weeks.
Groundhog Day tells the story of Phil Connors, a cocky guy who gets stuck on a particular day, February 2nd, and has to relive infinitely the same day. Every day he wakes up at 6 am to live the same day.
At the beginning of the movie, Phil is arrogant, insensitive, convinced, and snob. He mistreats people around him such as homeless and his old school friend.
However, stuck on the same day, waking up over and over on the same day, Phil begins to wake up to life. First, he reacts badly. He tries to comet suicide, but neither death saves the situation that he is in.
Then, Phil realizes that, as it has to live and has no other way, he should make every moment count. So, he decides to help people, to be a nice guy, and to learn new skills (piano and ice sculpture).
In the end, he falls in love with his professional colleague, Rita, and she corresponds his love. They sleep together, and when they wake up, he realizes that, finally, is no longer February 2nd, but February 3rd. The love releases him!
This is an amazing movie that made me think that we should live every day as if it the last day of our lives. We should do good things and activities that make us happy because we never know what will be tomorrow.
Thank you for the opportunity to watch such a funny and deep movie!
