In 1980,  U.S. Congressman, Charley Wilson (Tom Hanks) from Texas finds himself poised to make history, and make the world a better place, if only a little (and depending on who you ask).   By this time, the Soviets have invaded Afghanistan with high-tech tanks and airships while the locals only have outdated rifles to defend themselves.  With help from CIA agent, Gust Avrakotos (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and Texas socialite, Joanne Herring (Julia Roberts), Wilson eventually raises a billion dollars to secretly help the Afghans bring down the Soviets and hasten the end of the Cold War.  But how does Wilson do it?  Directed by Mike Nichols with Emily Blunt, Ned Beatty, Amy Adams.  Rated R (102 min.) mike laib 2015.
