Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) are rival stage magicians in London at the end of the 1800s.  They are each obsessed with the most difficult of illusions called "The Transported Man."  In this trick, a man disappears and instantly reappears some distance away, a seemingly impossible act.  The best magician can dominate his profession in all of London.  When Angier's wife, Julia, (Piper Perabo) accidently dies on stage, he blames Borden, and the rivalry becomes personal and deadly.  Which man will create the most convincing version of the trick, and who will pay the greater price?  With Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, and David Bowie.  2 Academy Award nominations.  Rated PG-13 (130 min.) mike laib 2011
