It is hard to believe that in Alabama in 1965, it would be next to impossible to register to vote, just because you were black. In this gripping biopic, we see the series of events which led up to the historic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. We see Dr. Martin Luther King (David Oyelowo) as a deeply flawed man who nevertheless had a gift to inspire millions to stand up and march for racial equality. We see how difficult it was for black Americans to organize a simple walk of fifty miles, in a story of courage and truth that will long be remembered. Directed by Ava DuVernay. Academy Award: Best Original Song. Nominated, Best Picture. Rated PG-13 (128 min.) mike laib 2016.
