Don Pedro (Denzel Washington), Prince of Arragon, and his officers return to Messina, Italy, victorious from battle.  Claudio (Robert Sean Leonard) falls in love with Hero (Kate Beckinsale).  Benedick (Kenneth Branagh) falls for Beatrice (Emma Thompson).  But treachery of the heart seems destined to keep both couples apart.  The comedy is driven by confusion, deception, and cruel jokes where people hide behind trees and listen to key conversations.  Don John, the half-brother (Keanu Reeves) is the evil villian.
