British-born, Hollywood director, Danny Boyle makes a movie about Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), a poor young man in India who plays “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” and correctly answers all the questions because his life experience has perfectly prepared him for this game.  But  Prem, the game-show host (Anil Kapoor), thinks Jamal is cheating and uses the police to torture the 18-year-old player.  To show us how Jamal really knows the answers, the story flashes back to his childhood in the slums of Mumbai, where he, his brother, and a mysterious young woman grow up and try to find a better life.  Winner of 8 Academy Awards.
